zzzzzzz

by Jessica Segall

Zzzzzzz is custom-made bed that houses live honeybees. Its drawers are outfitted with langstroth - style beehive frames. Bees have the same diurnal cycle as humans. They leave the hive in late morning and return home from work at dusk, allowing the bed to be occupied at night.

Zzzzzzzzzz is a proposition that we can share the same domestic space as honeybees, co-habitating as both humans and insects face uncertain futures.
‍Zzzzzzz is an optimistic act of engagement in a time when classification and taxonomy of nature, species, sex and gender is changing, and when new means for cohabitation and stewardship are needed.
Zzzzzzz has implications not only to declining insect populations and our relationship with nature as consumers and geoscapers, but in trust and our contractual relationship to each other in a network of overlapping intimacies.
